Deer and elk

Couple of first's for them this year. First will be deer season. Got a new Mossberg Patriot in 308 and hunting deer this year with cast bullet's. Little uneasy as I don't get near the accuracy with my cast bullet's as with jacketed, but have determined I'm doing it. I get about 1 3/4" groups at 100yds, sound's like the length of a football field. Don't plan on shooting at anything over maybe 150 yds. My back up I don't shoot cast in. Mod 70 Feather Weight in 6.5x55 with 129gr Hornady's. Got it about 10 years ago thinking if my grand daughter hunt's, she'd get it. Elk season is gonna be a first too. Going to use a 30-06. This is the third 30-06 I ever owned and I have never carried one hunting before. This one is special though, made in 1945 by Paul Jaeger on a 1903 Springfield. Very close friend died in 1995 and he'd had it made as a present to himself when he got out of the service. The last day's of his service time was in the Army Hospital in Walla Walla, Wash; he'd been wounded in the Pacific. Have always worried about scratching it up so just never carried it before. Got a nice load with 180gr Hornady's loaded up for it, about 1 1/4" at 100 yds. The back up rifle for elk is gonna be the same 6.5x55. Have the 129gr load and worked up another 140gr Hornady load for elk. They both shoot to about the same point!
