My First Moose Hunt (Shiras Moose)

The camp was really nice, nestled on a Lake full of trout……Way up north in British Columbia, Canada….Carp Lake to be exact…

Terrain was heavily wooded with thick blow downs from the beetle infestation from years before….Travel was mostly by boat to different parts of the lake and then to treestands….

I was with two friends of mine……We shared two guides the first night hunt… Jerry was with one guide and Ramon and Me were with the other guide..Mike……

14 Year Old's Spring Black Bear Hunt

On a Saturday Morning at my first SCI Convention, I found myself as one of maybe the first 50 to 75 people rolling in after a long night in Reno.  One of the first donation hunts up for auction was a Spring Spot and Stalk Black Bear Hunt in British Columbia.  I was not there for this hunt, but it was such an incredible deal that I had to grab it.  It seemed like a perfect opportunity to spend time with my 14 year old son in the middle of nowhere and get him a shot at a Big Game Animal after years of being at my side on Deer Hunts.

British Columbia Mixed Bag Hunt

I live in Arizona and have a Mountain Home that borders the White Mountain Apache Reservation and can hunt 4 of the premier Elk Units in the world with less than an hour drive in any direction.  About another two and half hours straight east down Route 60 I have another property in New Mexico's Unit 17 bordering National Forest and BLM where 3 Governors Bulls have been shot within 5 miles of my land. The last thing I had any plans of shooting on a British Columbia Mixed Bag Hunt was a 310 +/- class Elk.

After waking up an hour late, I was already off to a bad start. I quickly called my hunting partner Tim Shumaker, whom I was supposed to have picked up at 430, and found out that he too was still sleeping. I had wanted to be in the bush by about 530 for sun-up, but that wasn’t about to happen. Quickly throwing my gear in my truck, I tore downtown to pick him up.

“Slept in huh?” he asked with a smile as he tossed his gear beside me.

“Uh huh,” I tossed back with a half asleep smirk.

Hunt of a Lifetime - 2010 Mountain Goat

My friend Charlie and I planned a mountain goat hunt about 18 months earlier and the time finally came to make the 2 ½ day drive to British Columbia, Canada.  We arrived in camp on Wednesday, September 21, 2010.  Beaverfoot Outfitters ran their operation out of a group of chalets nestled at the base of the Canadian Rockies near Golden, BC, Canada.
